🔥 What Is the DuPont BBQ Cookoff?
The DuPont BBQ Cookoff is a high-energy, family-friendly event that brings together the best of backyard flavor and national competition. Founded in 2017 and now in its 8th year, the Cookoff has grown into a beloved community tradition in the Pacific Northwest. Officially sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS), this event draws top pitmasters from across the country to compete for prize money, trophies, and bragging rights.
But it’s more than just BBQ — it’s a celebration of community, veterans, music, and summer vibes in the heart of DuPont, Washington.

🔹 Friday, August 15 – BBQ Kickoff Night 5:30PM to 8PM
BBQ Feast & Beverage Garden – This is a special dinner to kick off the weekend festivities and supports the American Legion. Enjoy Live music from Paul Johnson featuring jazz and classical guitar. A favorite musical artist in the Pacific Northwest. The menu consists of pulled pork, Central Texas-style brisket, BBQ pit beans, potato salad, broccoli salad, cornbread muffins and banana pudding. Each buffet ticket also includes a complimentary beverage from the beverage garden. Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the gate. A silent auction will be available to get some great products and services from the local community.
🔹 Saturday, August 16 – BBQ Sample Heaven
On Saturday, from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, the park transforms into a BBQ lover’s paradise. Most competing Pitmasters will be offering BBQ samples for nominal prices, giving you the chance to try championship-level barbecue without ever leaving town. While you’re sampling, enjoy live music, refreshing drinks in the beverage garden, and supervised children’s activities to keep the whole family entertained.
🔹 Sunday, August 17 – Whole Hog Heaven
Once again on Sunday, 11AM to 3:30PM the event is open. Pitmasters will also be offering samples of their championship BBQ from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM including this year for the first time in the Pacific Northwest, Smoked Turkey in all its various forms. You have to try this inspired offering! The event wraps up in spectacular fashion from 2:00–3:30 PM with a whole hog BBQ demonstration followed by plated servings of this Southern delicacy. It’s a rare chance to see (and taste) the art of traditional whole hog cooking—come hungry and bring your camera! But hurry, it will go fast!
